The Process
The mediator usually meets with the CAS worker first and then the other participants. Then one or more joint mediation sessions occur, with or without counsel. At the end of the mediation, the mediator sends a reporting letter to all parties which is reviewed by counsel, is not binding and can be incorporated into either the court proceedings or form the basis for a voluntary agreement.
The Mediators
All the mediators on the OAFM roster are trained in child protection mediation. They know child welfare, alternative dispute resolution, family dynamics and cultural diversity. The mediators come from different professional backgrounds such as social workers and lawyers.
The mediators are located in different parts of the GTA. You can choose a mediator by a location that is convenient to you and the family.
