Toronto Mediation Centre


The Toronto Mediation Centre (TMC) receives provincial government funding to deliver Child Protection Mediation services in the Greater Toronto Area. The Toronto Mediation Centre is committed to giving families and children a greater voice in the Child Protection process and increasing the possibility for children to live in a safe, nurturing and conflict-free environment. Judges can recommend mediation while a court case is in process, or social workers, lawyers and families can refer directly to mediation.

Executive Director – Jan Schloss, MSW, RSW, AccFM

Jan Schloss, RSW AccFM, is Director of the newly incorporated Toronto Mediation Centre. From 2004- February 2008 she was the director of the Centre for Child and Family Mediation as successor to Justice June Maresca.

Jan has over 20 years experience in the child welfare field both as a front line worker and management. She has combined her skills in mediation with her passion for child welfare as both the Director of the Toronto Mediation Centre and as an experienced child protection mediator.

Jan has an independent private practice that focuses on working with families in conflict. She provides the following services: Family Mediation, Parenting Coordination, Parent Coaching, Divorce Coaching, Custody and Access Assessments as well as consultation and training and mentoring( She is active member of Collaborative Practice Toronto ( and a member of Family Solutions (, a team of highly qualified social workers and psychologists who work with high conflict families.

Program Manager - Karen Ehrlich, MSW, RSW, AccFM

Karen Ehrlich, R.S.W., M.S.W., is a Family Mediator (Acc.F.M.) and Registered Social Worker who specializes in working with families experiencing separation and divorce. Karen is currently working in private practice in Toronto. She is the Program Manager for the Toronto Mediation Centre, working in the area of Child Protection Mediation.
